Feeling Stupid and Need a Little Help

Two weeks ago I picked a Type 2 paratrooper, all matching but with defaced mum. The former owner had bathed it in cosmolene so I took it apart and cleaned. Then I had to go on a business trip and finally began to re-assemble it last night. All went well until I came across a part that I do not know where to install. It is numbered to the two pieces of the receiver-barrel combination.

The part is U shaped, has two rectangular metal ears, one with the receiver-barrel combination number stamped on it. There is a single hole drilled through each of the metal ears. The U shaped seems to fit around a channel in the barrel just behind the rear sight. I cannot see any other place to put this piece of metal. It might act as a sight protector.

Does anyone have a picture of a Type 2 paratrooper that might have picture this part?

The band goes over the barrel in the groove behind the rear sight and the top screw in the flange on the barrel side go through the holes and anchors the forearm to the back end of the front barrel half. riceone
