My old carbine and questions.

I aquired this carbine 10 yrs ago from a co-worker who was moving to Chicago and didn't want the hassles of owning it there. He had been willed it when his dad had passed away and wasn't much into shooting. Question is what to do with it since it appears to be a mixmaster rebuild his dad got from DCM. Not sure if I should restore it or just enjoy it? It is one of two I own. But I sure would like to know more about it. Finding fun in the details.

Receiver Serial number is 203153X, hard to read under sights I think is Standard products. (from research I have done I think this is correct for serial no. ?)
The barrel Has w and p in oval (winchester i beleive) It gages TE 2 MW of around 1.
Front sight is marked RIA on left side?
Rear Sight I think is second version milled with SA stamped on right side? and something on left side but cant make it out?
Bayonet lug and front band have a D with a diamond around them? (Donaldson Mfg. WW2?)
Stock is low wood marked IR in the cutout with some other stamps barely visible. It'stamped with AAB on left side.(Robert Irwin Co. replacement? Anniston Arsonal and inspector?)
Recoil block or sheild no markings?
The handgaurd is a two rivet stamped on underside IO. ( I think this is inland?)
The bolt is stamped on left lug rockola.
Slide is crudly machined and with no markings?
Gas piston no markings.
Trigger group housing is stamped inland parrellel with the receiver.
The magasine release is stamped with large M on the face.
Hammer is stamped WU
Sear has no markings.
I did not disassemble bolt nore the trigger group to search further.

I quess anything the group might be able to tell me about the weapon and any suggestions would be appreciated. I have just now found time to start learning more about weapons I have and to enjoy them fully. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like you have things pretty well figured out although the AAB rebuild stamp is Augusta Arsenal followed by the inspector's initial. I'd say have it checked out and use it for a shooter since it's got what looks to be a pretty nice barrel. Enjoy!

I vote on keeping as is, as it came from DCM. I have a CMP INLAND, and opted to keep it as is. Well, except, I swapped the trigger guard group with a complete, correct Inland I had on an Underwood.

sorry, didn't mean to be ambiguous. one of my slides, also crudely machined and apparently unmarked turned out to be S'G' and, after a month of looking, i never would have seen it had it not been for help from you guys!

Where do I need to be looking. My other had all its markings inside of the slide. Also I found an SG stamped on the recoil plate sorry I missed it earlier but it was very faint

Make sure you clean it well, buildup can hide the stamps.

Hiya Bud. I am going to try and help you. Don't forget I am a learner too ! That's why this Forum is good, we are all learners, doesn't matter how long you have been collecting them, we all try to help each other and accept the mistakes we make along the way... Now ..

Sounds like your receiver is a Standard, #203153X, we call them STD. PROS. Their serial number block was 1,982,520 to 2,352549. I just sold a 2.2 but have kept a 1.9. As far as I am concerned the receiver is the GUN. The latest info I have available suggests that yours was manufactured between Oct to Dec 43.

You obviously have a rebuilt Carbine .... so the slide comes next. Between 1,982,520 and 2,040,000, the evidence suggests, Standard slides were marked S in a circle, or S, no circle , followed by a number 6 - ?? Mine are in the bottom of the inside of the box. But nothing is "for sure", as Standard did receive a few slides from Inland and Postal Meter, so they may be found on an original gun.

So I can look into your Carbine further, I'd like to know if your slingwell markings could be IR IP and if there are any markings on the left handside, midway up, on the metal of the butt-plate ?.
