    1949 Mk2 Production Start Date?

There was a thread about this---at gunboards, maybe---and I believe the starting month for regular production was bracketed. Does anyone here remember this?

At anyrate, a 5/49 Mk2 has come my way, (with a really remarkable sling, by the by) and in two weeks, when the police hold is done, I'll put up some photos.

Shout if you have anything on this.
    Thanks,
    -----krinko

That is IT----the Enfield thing has been so slow around here, I'd forgotton I had the list in "Favorites".
I'm glad to find that it's May and not March for the starting month, that means my brain isn't turning to mush after all.
So, the expenditure is justified and it's even earlier than Parallax Bill's.

Thanks, Amatikuluicon, no slovenly sout piel are you.

So, a PF59xxx postdates a PF79xxx? How did they organise their serial numbers?

    Maybe because 1 is for a No.4 Mk.1 and the other is for a No.4 Mk.2?

The serial numbers ran in sequence through the transition to Mk2----if you go to the site at Amatikuluicon's link, you will see this for yourselves.
The out of sequence number might have any explanation you can imagine, but it isn't the norm.

Krinko, I had some early Mk.2's from the South African Interarms imports but they are long gone. If memory serves there may have been one as early as April 1949 but May would definitely be regular albeit early production. Maybe SpikeDD will chime in. Brian

    Brian,
I spoke to Spike Sunday evening----and he fished out an April '49 Mk1 he got from you, way back when.
Comparing serial numbers, that Mk1 and the 5/49 Mk2 I have coming are separated by about 3000 units.
Which would seem to be a fairly tight bracket. Maybe we'll get some more serial numbers and narrow it down further.

    Krinko,

Some more numbers, have 2 x No4 Mk 2 (F) have included the 53 just for the number

    10/49 [PF 4065**

    3/53 [PF 270**

the 49 is stamped, the 53 is etched.
