    Hello,

I just bought a 1903 and I'm looking for photos of the Marine Peep Sight conversion. Anyone here have any info?

    Thanks

The following is a post on the CMPicon forum:

    jbarn_199910-27-2009, 10:25 PM-
"As I understand it, the ladder type sight has a enlarged peep sight that is visible when the ladder is in the up position with the USMC mod.

This is just an insert to the rear sight and requires no other mod - this is designed to be used with a new front sight also.

As stated in the old boards by nbkky71 on 1/29/2008:

"The USMC sights replace the standard 1903 front sight blade and rear sight slide. The front sight has a thicker blade (.125" wide) and the rear sight slide has single peep that is .1" wide.

I converted about a year ago and shot in the Springfield match with them last year at Perry. It's much easier to maintain a consistent sight picture without having to hunt for that thin front blade...especially in the rapid fire string. The sights are pricey, but well worth the money.

I purchsed mine from Bill Bentz (dcm450shtr@comcast.net). Price was in the neighborhood of $75. He also makes a replacement USMC front sight for the 1903A3 rifle. However, only the 1903 sights are legal for as-issued matches."

I have a photo of a sight (not sure if it's an official USMC modification)...give me a while to figure out how to post it.

    Hey pvfd,

Like Chuck wrote. Putting Marine sights on an '03 is not really a modification. They replace the standard peep and front sight blade. No modification needed.

The USMC peep is a rectangle with only a 0.10" hole. The front sight blade is 0.10" wide and taller than a regular blade. It is undercut. I think they were intended to give a Marine a 200 yard battle zero. I have a set on a rifle but am a bit lazy today.

    Marine sights.

    Pattern14,

The photo is of an M1903A3 sight. The Marine sights were used on M1903's with the folding sight leaf.

    p14, is that a 1903 or a 1903a3 rear sight?

the sight set up i thing your asking is about was made by Lyman gunsight,
#10 sight slide, and a #10 front as well.
there is a repoduction set available, im sure someone here knows and has a link , the sight pictured is from a 1903A3 and not an 03. and is of standard issue.
