'The flange on a Lanchester and Sterling barrel (which was developed from the remaining stock of 4,000 Lanchester barrels) act as a beating or stop face for the bolt. No beating face and the barrel is toast! '
Regarding Peters post above. I have seen & examined a fair quantity of sterling barrels, that were converted from lanchester Barrel stocks. The proof marks have a Kings Crown Proof Stamp on them. & there was a bit of a 'Thing' going on with some of these barrels in Service at one time.
Pete, do you recall 'something' in EMERs concerning the machining depth of chambers being SLIGHTLY too deep? it affected SOME SMGs I believe. But not all for some reason. These were passed for usage as spares & were marked with a white spot of paint to identify them.
Time dulls the memory as to what EXACTLY this problem resulted in during Service use. But it couldn't have been much, or they would not have been released to be used to supplement 'Normal' Spares Stocks?

I know this thread is quite old but perhaps one of you can tell me more about this Lanchester with a very high numbered serial of 76055. Stamped mk1*, SA, M619,

Made by Sterling. What else do you need to know?

Why not post some pictures of it. We all like looking at pictures and you may get some further information.

All I can say is that it is quite late but I know of some later examples.

You have a C&R Lanchester?

Vince, your Q, thread 107. I feel that - once again on this and the Bren forum - that most of the questioners are simply transient passers-by. Once they've asked, we've answered, they just wander off elsewhere without a thanks or bye-your-leave. Wiser but have donated nothing in return. I've said it before and will no doubt say it again........... Frustrating or what.....?

Yes, it’s a little disappointing, Peter. Part of the territory that comes with these forums I guess.

Would have been interesting to see a few pictures.
