Etched glass reticule, I think. WBS2111 had another one apart, again, a couple or three weeks ago and I got to watch the disassembly. If its badly assembled or out of focus the reticle might just be invisible rather than missing altogether.

What part of the planet are you on? Peter Laidlericon in Englandicon has as one or two apart as well.

Spare parts might be a bit of a bother.

There's a thread w/ pics somewhere on these forums from last year. (Mauser Forum, I think...)

I just joined forum yesterday because I have a ZF4 I was trying to get info about. Not an expert by any means but mine has a 3 T-post reticle and the way it moves I would agree it's probably etched.

I only got involved with the ZF41 because a friend of mine had a modern repro ZF41 fitted to his original rail fitted K98icon. And it wouldn't zero properly for range. So I stripped the repro against an original and it was pretty damned close but missing the tabbed washer that prevents the prismatic type OG lens (think Patt '18 scopes.....). Made one from brass together with a set of zeroing pins (must be correct diameter to prevent many tears and an early grave........) and it is still going strong.

I stripped and cleaned the original following advice from the K98 guys.

Interesting but nothing ground breaking optically
