.30 caliber bandolier and practice rounds
Hi,
I’m new to the forum and must confess I’m not necessarily a collector of militaria. I do have a few items that came down from my Grandpa, to my dad, to me.
I have this WW1 era bandolier of .30 caliber Remington ammo. The bandolier has six pockets with a shoulder strap. 2 of the pockets only have the slotted cardboard left in them. One is mostly full of ammo but open. The last 3 are still stitched shut.
I also have one full box and a 3/4 box of .30 caliber practice rounds. The rounds are in clips. 5 rounds per clip, 4 clips in a box originally.
I tried to attach a pic. I'm not sure if it worked.
A friend of mine believes these to be for a M1903 Springfield. Is that correct? Also I was wondering if someone could tell me an approximate value. I have someone interested but want to have more knowledge before offering them up. I don’t anticipate they are worth a fortune but would add an element of interest to someone’s collection.
Thanks,
Alex

The live round shown is probably a 30-40 Krag round. Note the printing on the bandoleer, Model of 1898 which is a Krag made by Springfield. I think the bandoleer and rounds in it are quite valuable for a collector. The rounds in the clip are for the 1903 Springfield. Look on the base to see what markings are there.

M1903 Ammo
I appreciate the info Bruce. I didn't want to pop open a clip on the practice rounds to see what the end says. If I remember correctly the regular rounds have a "RA 17" on them with an "R" on the primer.
Thanks,
Alex

Remington produced quantities of 30-40 ammunition during WWI for the Krag, which was still used for training and limited service use. I also have a similar bandoleer, which is sewed up so the contents can't be examined. Just got it about a year ago.

Thanks Rick. I appreciate the info.
I have been offered $30 for the lot. Does that seem out of line?
Thanks,
Alex

Way to little if it were mine. I really don't know what it is worth, but I'd say at least $100. It just depends on how badly you need the money, or how badly someone wants your items. Maybe Rick (TRL) will let us know what range he paid, although he may have flashed his afghan and confused the seller

I got it retail from the Dealer's Warehouse and seem to remember I paid $100+ plus shipping for it.
P.S. Just checked the Dealers Warehouse website - they still have mint condition 60-round bandoleers in various years - $125 + shipping.
