    03 Date of Manufacture

Does anyone have information (or guesstimate) on the date of manufacture of 03 Springfield ser.# 6843? Numbers definitely look different from the ones you normally see. Fancier looking.

Yes, it was manufactured as a Rod Bayonet M1903 in 1903. The numbers on the receiver were "fancier" until replaced by the "block" numbers and letters in the high 200,000-low 300,000 range.

    Later "block" receiver markings:

If assembled in order of serial number, your rifle was manufactured on or very near 13 Feb 1904.
