Plated bullets for the Carbine..experience with them.

Hi guys. Back to the world after fighting a cancer on my right vocal cord..and am winning it appears. I have shot a couple of thousand of Frontier Bullets I bought from 3RS. Think we talked about these before so pardon the repeat. They are made in South Africa and 3RS is a dealer. (may be others) Due to the shape, they don't have the taper that military bullets have, you have to seat them deeper. I tried the first ones at my usual depth of 1.675 OAL but they stuck in the chamber mouth. Backed off to an OAL of 1.636 and they work just fine in all of my rifles. I load them ahead of 13.1 grains of #2400 and they are as accurate as any other jacketed bullets I have shot. No signs of them shedding copper either. The last batch I bought was $65.00 per thousand plus shipping. I found dealing with 3RS to be a pleasure. Think they are a family business. Hope this helps.
    Good shooting..
    Best..
    Ed

Ed, glad you're feeling better. I live down the road from you a couple hours.
Do you happen to have a web site or email address for 3RS? I think i remember the earlier thread about those bullets but wasn't reloading carbine then and didn't keep any record.

I have to apologize for the mass confusion on our velocities for certain bullets. I posted on another thread that you can use the .308 110gr RN Berry's Plated bullet to a max of 1950 FPS. These bullets have a much thicker plating on them so they can be pushed faster. Our standard target bullets for pistol should not be pushed past 1250 fps. We made the change on this particular bullet over two years ago. We created a smaller core die that allowed for almost twice the old copper thickness. Please contact me if you have any more questions. Thanks - Jay
