Question I Need A Carbine Gunsmith

I mistakenly tried to remove my front sight on my IBM M1icon Carbine without removing the retaining pin first. I was using a front sight removal tool. Well........The darn thing won't move now. I believe the retaining pin is bent inside the sight. Could someone suggest a Carbine gunsmith to get me out of my pickle. Got in a big rush this morning and made a stupid mistake. I don't wish to compound my stupidity by damaging my barrel....Thanks

If the pin can't be knocked out, then you may have to have the sight cut off and a new one installed. If do it carefully with a dremel and cutting blade the barrel won't be damaged. You'll only suffer the cost of a new sight, pin, and key.

I may be wrong but this doesn't seem to be a very friendly place. I will take my questions elsewhere.

    ?????????

I'm not sure I understand that response. Sounds like they are trying to be helpful to me. Just trying to point out that you don't really need a gunsmith to do what you are asking. Carbine specific gunsmiths are hard to come by. You may want to check with some of the guys who provide refinishing or rebarreling services because they take them apart to finish them. Tim Shufflin comes to mind right away.

I think 22mike's request was for a gunsmith to send it to rather than for a solution for him to resolve the problem himself.
Mike22, tell us what part of the country you're in and I'm sure you'll get a few recommendations.

    Phil,

Couple of points.... like most of us, he is also on CMPicon. He has asked the same question there as he did here. He got alot of responses and advice from the members there. I think what he did not realize is that this board is alot S-L-O-W-E-R in posting - we don't chat as much. At this point in time, I do not comprehend what the expectations are. The advice given by the vast majority of responders is almost exactly the same - slow down, drive the pin out, and soak. I even quoted him what was in the army tech manual. I guess most of us on this board are either too old to type fast enough or just don't want to type the same advice twice on two or more different boards....

Hope he gets his sights fixed. Hate to think that two IBM barrels are going to get bent because of moving too fast...

    Where's my rocking chair, anyway????

Ed, he is probably looking for instant gratification as most of the younger set seem to do.
Hell, I can't even both think and type fast enough here to keep from being timed out!
The Edit below can attest to that!

Actually, this is one of the friendliest and most helpful forums around. At least the dozen or so that I frequent, including CMPicon/ Members here have more REAL knowledge than most on CMP, and were really trying to help you by telling you inexpensive ways to accomplish it yourself (as another member already stated.) The front sight block is an excellent option for your case.

If that dude thinks this is an unfriendly place, I hope he stays away from a few other forums I go on. He'd get his feelings hurt real quick there.

It seemed to me the replies he got were from people trying to help him out and save the cost of shipping off his carbine to a gunsmith that specializes in carbines, and the cost of the work he'd need done. To me, advice like that is much better than simply posting a name and address to ship it away to get it done. But that's just me, I guess.
