Vintage Military Telescopic Sight Parker Hale Mount - eBay

    Here's an old No.32 Mk1 with a different mount ...

Vintage Military Telescopic Sight Parker Hale Mount - eBay (item 160441343322 end time Jun-10-10 11:36:04 PDT)

A vintage military telescopic sight, I don't know anything about it.

It is marked on the body but part of the writing is obscured by the mount & I cannot loosen the screws to move it.

What I can see is '?L. STG. No 32 MKI

    '?B.M. Co 06.466A'

    'REG No 4226'

& the military arrow or crows foot mark.

The 2 mounts are marked 'Parker Hale Made in Englandicon'

The device for aligning the cross hairs has no makers marks on it, the 2 dials both move.

    No damage to lenses.

Over the eyepiece end there is a brass sleeve that can be extended.

Brass piece at the other end as small indentation to the edge.

Length without brass extended 11" (28cm) Weight 875g
    Regards,
    Badger

I missed it myself until I saw the eBay link posted on three other gun sites, so I thought I'd better make sure our members didn't get left out of the running ..

In days gone by, this is how these sights were found....., fixed to clapped out old Diana air rifles and one I saw, on an equally clapped out old .410 Webley garden gun! How times change

What he ought to say at the end of his advert is '.....if it fetches more than £10, I'll include the postage'

I was very lucky, bought a No32 Mk1 with identical Parker Hale mounts but without the eyeshade for £90 & a Mk1 rear sight for the No4 manufactured by Long Branch for £6 at a military fair in Cheshunt

As I've probably mentioned before, H.W. English, or his brother, told me in 1986 that they had sold off about 5000 No32 MkI scopes, many with cases and brackets since the 1950s. When they closed up in 1987, there were still dozens around the place in various states of repair, as well as a crate of about 100 brackets. The brackets sadly were scrapped - hard to believe someone could be that thick, even in 1987, but that's what happened. I later got one that had been dug out of their back lot I was told. It was heavily pitted so I can believe it.

Probably hundreds, if not thousands of No4(T)s that had seen heavy service in the war and after were scrapped in the late 40s or early 50s due to wear, or were upgraded to Mk3 optics. "Yesterday's papers..."

When I find the H.W. English catalogue again I'll post some scans.

Good grief, that's a large percentage of "loose" scopes. Oh, well, hopefully more folk will realize that their crappy old .22"LR/air rifle scope is actually worth money before it gets pitched for a fancy new Tasco.

You JUST NEVER know what type of mount you will find on a 32 scope. I've had some weird ones and this is the latest. It does not fit any action I have, nor is the profile of the rear mount familiar....

Speaking of scope mounts, I have a No4 and saw a repro scope mount on ebay and Gunbroker. It says that it is threaded to fit in the existing holes, but not sure which holes they are using. Not trying to build a No4T, but would like to put a low power scope on if and not use the crap that are selling these days...any ideas?

---------- Post added at 09:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:56 PM ----------

Also does anyone have or know where I can find a technical manual for the No4T scope mount?
