A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Funny how they all belonged to an ancient parent or a little old lady who only used after church on Sundays.

Having said that, it looks fairly kosher from the pix.

Saved data for posterity here in this thread, so it's available after auction disappears from GB ..

Lee Enfield British Sniper 1943 with Scope : Bolt Action at GunBroker.com

NO RESERVE C&R O.K.*****SHIPPING TO LOWER 48 STATES ONLY*****NO EXCEPTIONS*****ORIGINAL WWII LEE ENFIELD SNIPER NO. 4 MKI .303 BRIT. THIS SNIPER HAS A CLEAN BORE AND PROPER MARKINGS FOR A 1943 MODEL. BOLT MATCHES RIFLE SERIAL NUMBER. SCOPE SERIAL # 8039 DOES NOT MATCH SCOPE SERIAL # 7751 ON TOP OF BUTTSTOCK BUT IS THE CORRECT YEAR (1943). I FIRED 20 ROUNDS WITH NO PROBLEMS. I DID NOT ZERO IN THE SCOPE AS I WASN'T PLANNING ON TAKING IT TO THE RANGE ON THE WEEKENDS. EXTRA MAGAZINE AND SCOPE ADJUSTMENT TOOL INCLUDED ALONG WITH CORRECT SLING AND AFTERMARKET SCOPE LENS COVER. The serial number AS0212 is stamped on the left of the steel band that goes around the front of the buttstock (it's under the date 1943 but too faint to show in pictures), the number on the bolt is also AS0212. Scope optics are perfect; cross wire is intact, dials turn freely and click into position. This gun belonged to my 75 year old father-in-law for many years and has not been taken apart so I cannot give you info on barrel or forend. I priced this auction with the knowledge that I can sell the scope, mounting bracket and adjusting tool on eBay for $2,000 if I wanted to sell rifle and scope separate. This leaves the rifle valued at $350. Although the scope is not the original assigned to this rifle it is the correct year and I prefer not to separate them if possible, but if the auction doesn't sell I will probably sell the scope on eBay. This firearm will be shipped with a C&R. I only ship to legal FFL/C&R holders, *** Shipping will be $50.00 (shipped in hard case, this includes insurance). Illinois residence must pay sales tax. Thank you for your interest. PAYMENT DUE WITHIN 7 DAYS OF AUCTION END. MONEY ORDER, CASHIERS CHECK, OR PERSONAL CHECK (MUST CLEAR BEFORE SHIPPING).
    Regards,
    Badger

Don't buy the story, but the rifle. It looks legit to me, miss matched scope and mount.

The mount's ring matching assembly numbers look odd, but it's bad monitor day again at work (done! another 12hr gone...), so I can't pick out details well.

IMHO rifle scope & bracket are all fine -- an honest mis-match as stated. Photo's aren't sharp enough to tell, but bracket cradle ends may have been filed up tho' I can't make out if they've been renumbered......I say this as they just look too 'clean' to me (though bracket in toto is def original). I also cannot tell due to the quality of the pics, but I suspect the scope adjustment tool may be a repro as well as the lens caps.

But all in all, it looks ok to me....

(Incidentally, I have two numbered reasonably close: AS 03XX & AS 41XX).

    Hi All,

Have been away for an while but maybe I can resolve an part of this rifles/scope history.

The scope was sold on Ebay an year or so ago. It didn't have an mountingbracket at that moment.
So the seller is selling you an "rebuilt" sniper rifle from parts he / she bought somewere.

    CU Harry
