    Question What are these rifles?

A friend of mine has two older rifles, which appear to me to be milsurps. He is in Nova Scotia, I am in Kingston Ontario. He is NOT a gun guy, so let us say that the information is somewhat SKETCHY........

    First is a "1918 Erfurt."

Second is an "1878 Spandau single shot bolt action."

I have left and right side views of both rifles, and that is 100% of what I have. I need to remind myself how to post pics here (I think via hunt 101...) and will certainly post the four pics I do have.

In the meantime, any educated guesses as to what these old gals might be? The owner wishes to sell them and they are regsitered, so an opinion on prices (with the caveat that I cannot advise on conditon) would also be appreciated.

    thanks for any advice!

    Doug

I am military surplus myself....but I have no collector value........a bit rusty, a few parts missing, seen some rough service, but have been well oiled over the years....

    let's try for pics here....

OK I see how to do it, but these files are huge and the forum will not accept them.

Back to the drawing board - probably by sending the pics to badger....

    Hi Doug,

Best as I can tell from the pics I would say that the Erfurt 1918 is a sporterized (bubaized?) version of a Kar 98AZ (aka Kar98a). Although by 1918 it should have had finger grooves cut in the forestock.

The Spandau might be a Mod 71 although I do not recognize the woodwork. Is it in the 11mm "Reichspatrone" caliber?

First is definitely a sporetered kar98az.

The second appears to be a Gewehr 71 carbine in .43 Mauser

Thanks guys! Unfortunately all of the info I have is what I already posted.

Not sure why, but I did not get an e-mail notification about the replies, just came back now to check - I will scope out my user profile and ensure I should be getting notifications for thread replies.

Any guesses at all as to a fair value for either or both of these rifles? THANKS for any advice!

    Doug
