Santa Fe arms Montaineer.
Hi guys. I realise this is a milsurp forum but in it's previuous encarnation this rifle WAS a milsurp .
What I want to know is whether anyoe has a good source of information or Knows when the Golden state arms corp made the 'Mounitaineer' model of the Lee Enfield conversions. I'm possibly about to buy one and it may or may not be a C&R but it makes a $50 difference in price and means it';s not worth it if it's not C&R
thanks in advance folks

I had thought that it was in the 60's-70's.

newcastle, Going by memory GSA's hayday was during the sixties and I think Navy Arms bought them in the 70s. Stratton had a nice site for this niche area for L-E collectors, but the University of Idaho took it down following his passing. Very little info is to be found on the web it seems.
For the most part GSA'a conversions and sporters are well regarded WRT workmanship. Sporters ran from the very basic Special to the Supreme with four or five models in between. Possibly more (in)famous for converting No.4s to a No.5ish Jungle Carbine and No.1s to a No.6ish carbine.

The 'Mountaineer' does not qualify as a C&R as it's is a modified Mil-surp. GSA did these back in the seventies. There is one or more on GB right now.
