    Doug,

Thank you, the testing is very tedious with all software available for use and I can imagine the time it took.

To add a comment and to enlighten JMoore, IE6 is not only obsolete, it's a security disaster waiting to happen. No one enjoys upgrading, but there are times that for your own safety, the safety of your employer, and for web site security, it's not only recommened, it's required. IE8 runs just fine with XP / XP Pro, SP3. It's a transparent upgrade.

To build on an earlier post which showed members who preferred a much brighter display how to change that, here's a post in another thread that everyone should read, particularly those members who haven't looked at the very bottom left corner of the web site.

I don't like it...... (click here)

However, I wanted to intercede in this post to validate a few things, including what Ramboueille pointed out. Most problems people will have, other than not liking the dark colour scheme (which is why we have a lighter WHITE version already mentioned), is with their Internet Browsers.

Wikipedia reference-linkIE6 by Microsoft (released August 27, 2001) for Windows operating system machines is not just outdated, after 9 years of use it's obsolete and many web sites no longer support it, with some actually blocking it when their software does a "browser type" check and discover a user is attempting to login with it.

Anyway, I'd recommend people perform a simple upgrade on their Windows based machines as it's going to be absolutely critical as HTML5 and other changes to software technology start coming on-line in the next six to twelve months. It's one of the primary reasons we had to change to vBulletin v4.0.4pl1 and move away from v3.67pl1 for running this site, which was almost 3 years old and declared unsupported and obsolete by the authors of vBulletin.

Spefifically, we've tested this v4 software running on Apple MacBook Pro with OSX Leopard 10.6.4 using FireFox 3.6.6 and Safari 5.0. We also tested it on an standard PC running Windows XP with the current IE8 (Microsoft Internet Explorer V8). It's also been tested extendively on Apple iPads, Apple iPods, Aple iPhones, RIM Blackberries and several other graphics PDA's and phones.

It runs fine without any line clipping or other anomalies, as shown in the attached pics.

FireFox 3.6.6 and Safari 5.0 (light and dark color schemes)

    Attachment 13813 - Attachment 13814

Microsoft Internet Explorer V8 (light and dark color schemes)

    Attachment 13815 - Attachment 13816

More to follow in the next few days ....

    Doug,

Perhaps you can reassure on this:

I believe IE7 is the minimum requirement for function and security purposes. I have a few machines I use and one is XP Pro & IE7 with all updates. There have not been any issues here so far. For those that are using IE7 fully updated and XP/XP Pro SP3, you may be able to "skate" without any updates.

Security is not my concern, but i think that seeing how the company easily has over 15-20,000 computers (at one per about 3 employees), somebody over in the IT area has a handle on it...( besides just three weeks ago they did a 3 hour software update to this machine, seems they could have done that upgrade then...)

I figured out that I was crashing when I was not patient enough and overran this circa 2003 computer's processing capabilities and confused it. If I wait just a bit after getting a script error and ensure that the green bar at the bottom of the window is gone, it won't crash.

So I'm a bit slow, but what else is new?

Maybe this will help someone else having dramas with older equipment.

Oh, and the "thanks" function is fine now! Thanks, Badger and team!

    Wow!

What a difference!!! Nothing wrong with the new colours or operation on a friend's regular old PC (w/ a fancy flat screen 17"x10" monitor).

    VERY NICE.

First time I've had a chance to see it on the "outside". Sorry for all the grumbling, but most of my Milsurps.com time is on equipment over which I have no control. (The upside is that I didn't pay for it!)
The downside is that I've no idea when I'll have real free time to use this site at a s l o w pace, rather than the usual "blitzing" through threads.

    Multi-thanks!

    Doug,

    Any solution for this:

    Struggling With The Colour

I've played with font sizes here to no avail. It looks like the box is not centered vertically in the software.

Just sitting on a plane typing on my iPad, but I thought I'd ask for a clarification. I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "centered".

Evrything appears fine on the test platforms we use, unless I'm looking at the wrong area.

    Thanks for the feedback.

    Regards
    Doug

    Doug,

    Ha, Ha, on the plane!

The graphic is a screen shot, red box around it. Two lines of text on right for "Unread Messages." I can only see half of the second line's text. It doesn't show that for you?

    I see:

    Vista 64, IE8
"Forum" and the next line under describing what forum only shows half the text line vertically. I'm on a 22" Dell WS monitor 1680 x 1050 default resolution. Let me play with this some more......... I think I'm "losing it!"

Edit: Same on another computer and monitor 1600 x 1200.
    XP Pro 32, IE7

    Main forum screen is fine.

I still may be confused on what you're saying, only because I'm not seeing any anomalies at all on all our test bed platforms, including PC's, Apple MacBooks, Apple iMac's, iPads, iPhones and Blackberry PDA's.

So, just for clarity, are you saying the function of "New Posts" display, as shown in the attached pic, is causing you graphic anomalies on the system configurations you mentioned?

    Thanks for the feedback ...

    Regards,
    Doug

    Doug,

Yes, that is correct. I access other forums using vBulletin with no issues. "New Posts" display lines are the only issue here. My hardware/graphics are mainstream with all updates both machines.

Also, I don't see a "user CP" box readily accessible. Nothing above I can't live with........
