    I believe Grat would refer to graticule.

    Now correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you want the scope in centerline with the bore? How would you figure that out? Now like you said the crosshairs are to the left. What if the whole scope is sitting to the left & by filing a taper on the pad you're actually cocking the scope & it's not in a straight line with the bore. Where as if you took the same amount off the whole length of the pad you would move the whole scope over.
