Center Sling Swivel

Was able to borrow someone's camera to take a picture of my rifle:

Anyway, when we got a batch of re-useable fore-ends we'd have a bit of a run and patch them up with new draws etc dry them out, bath them in linseed and leave them on the shelf for the next batch of needy rifles.

Can anyone direct me to threads or information detailing this bathing in linseed oil? Was it done as a matter of course on all wood (including new)? How does this affect the bonding of glue for latter patching/repairs, as I would imaging that the wood would completely saturate with the linseed oil especially around the draws and bedding areas where there are big areas of exposed end grain??
I ask because I'd like to keep my repairs ( and maintenance) as close to as would have been done in service as possible.

Has anyone got photos of the centre swivel being used with a type of military sling. I understood that it was mostly used by target shooters with a short sling. I've also heard of them being utilized for sniping duties. Pics would be great.

The sling on my rifle is actually an evolution of that concept designed so the sling can be in both shooting and carrying mode at the same time so you don't have to switch the swivel the rear of the sling is attached to.

Should the small washer that fits on the king screw also be present on these swivels?

I just removed the swivel from my DCRA No4 rifle and tried it on my 1943 No4 T. The swivel doesn't have that washer. On my DCRA No4 it swivels freely. On my No4 T it sits so tight it won't turn unless I add in that washer too.
