    Unidentified long rifle

    Hello all,

First post in this section & I am looking for a little information on an unidentified rifle.

A mate has inherited what has been described to him as a "Chinese 3 man gun", the relative he inherited it from had always said it dates back to the boxer rebellion, apart from that, no other info.

It is a black powder weapon, stocked in bamboo & at least .50 calibre, maybe more !

I don't have any photos of it to post, as when I saw it I was camera-less.

However, I do have this photo I found when trying to research it.

It is similar, although the bamboo stocked one is not as thick around the wrist as the one pictured, and the bamboo stock is about three quarter length.

    Any leads most welcome.

    Cheers,
    David.

Probably a Chinese "wall" gun. Try that search. They were not meant to be mobile, just for mounting on a fortress wall for defense, but could be moved around the fortress to where needed.

I would have said "punt gun" also, these were basically insanely large shotguns used by "commercial" waterfowl hunters, intended to be fixed to small boats.

You could always tell a marsh/fens punt gunner,,,he was normally the really ugly guy in the corner of the pub.
Looked like the lashings for the gun came loose and he stopped the recoil with his face.
    (Honestly, this used to happen.)
What do you think would happen when about 25lbs of gun, propelled by 3/4lb of B/P, trying to shift the equivalent weight of shot, came loose???
    "Splat",,,ooh, that smarts!
