    RMC Stock Repair Questions ??

Bought a early RMC carbine from a fellow member here a while back. Good friend, He bought this one from the CMPicon a number of years ago. He stated it had a small patch. He doesn't do wood repairs, I do them for him.
He passed it along to me in the original box with the CMP paperwork, chamber flag etc..

At first the stock was so black he couldn't see a RMC and CC stamp. In fact he said if there's one there you'd have to be Superman to see it.
I Cleaned, Stripped and used my 2 part wood bleach solution on the stock before adding a little color and BLOicon. The markings are now clearly visable. Still tossing around the idea of adding one more coat of BLOicon. It doesn't show any signs of being sanded as any Rock Ola Buttplate or any of a handful of RMC handguards fit perfectly.

It has a small wood patch on it. I know I can fill the edges of the REPAIR better than they are now, but see no need to replace this patch, it's very solid and matches very closely. At the most it measures 3/16ths tall by 1 3/4" long.

    My questions...........
    Who did the repair?
This stock has a small RA-P stamp on the bottom of the grip. A lightly boxed RIA over EB on the left along with a circled P on the front of the grip.
I'm assuming if RIA or RA-P would have repaired this small patch near the slide handle they would have used the threaded brass pins. But there are none.
Might it be possible that the CMP did this repair?
Has anyone ever received a stock patched from CMP without pins?

I ask because I plan to auction/sell this one off with another batch of stocks I'm nearly complete on. If asked I'm not sure who to say may have repaired it. It' looks to be a true Type III Low-Wood. With early Type I/IA band use or the possible use of a type II.

I put some pictures together in hopes of these helping.

    TIA,
    Charlie-painter777

    Charlie,

I am probably wrong about this, but..... I believe that CMPicon does not do stock repairs to carbine stocks - especially to the quality of that one. They generally just trade out the stock. Bad usable stocks go on rackers and severely damaged stocks go out. I think it is safe to assume that the repair was done at the arsenal. First, because it was under all the grime you took off; Second, because it looks like it has some age to it; third, it was authorized by the tech manuals to save the Govt money (vice a new stock).

Looks like you did a great job on it. I agree that another coat of BLOicon would look better.

How much do you think you are going to get for it?

Charlie, I have been getting some "arsenal repair" stocks lately. That repair looks the same as the ones I have. My thought is that it was done at RIA. Mine have no pins it them, but are very professionally done like your's. I would addvertise them as arsenal repairs and be confident that you are right.....Frank

If you need a little back up I can post some picks.
They would look like your's. HTH.....Frank

I agree with Frankie Charlie, arsenal repair. That is a good loking stock and with a little filler I doubt the repair will be noticed at all.

Frank, I replied to you eBay question. Let me know

Unrelated question but still about the stock..

    Trying to learn here...

I noticed on the stock in this picture, the "RMC" letters of the cartouche look a little bit wider & shorter than some other rock ola "RMC" cartouches I have seen that people claim are correct. Also the leg of the R does not stick out as far as the top of the R on this cartouche, whereas on others the leg and top of the R do align almost perfectly, if not the leg sticking out past the top of the R just a bit to the right.

Did Rock Ola have a couple slight variations on stamping these cartouches? Does anyone know?
If so would that depend on year, stock type? For instance, T1 stocks looking slightly different than T3 stock cartouches?

rockwell, I beleive that wood be Rock-Ola's late stamp. The boxed RMC in a short box wider than the CC. Early would be a boxed RMC that didn't fill the box and was the same size of the CC. HTH.....Frank
