Yes, M1. And Thompsons up the hoop! The one on the right has two pistol mag pouches, I've never seen that with these guys. He also appears to be a para so that would explain why.

Hi Jim, I would say the four on the right are paratroopers and the one on the left is a tanker. They seem to be looking approvingly at something the tanker is holding. The para with the M1 has his 1911 in an M3 shoulder holster. The officer has a differant way of slinging his Thompson and they all look like they have their pockets full. Good picture Mark.....Frank

The one para has the reinforcing band on his T gun. I didn't see the chin cup on the M1's helmet the first time. Wonder what the tanker has? That castle in the back would be easy to ID for anyone a bit familiar with the area.

The later M1A1 Thompsons had the foregrip mount that was riveted and did not hold-up well under service usage, a special foregrip clamp was designed and issued to reinforce the weaker foregrip mount (this is the long piece that exends from under the barrel that the front grip is attached to with a screw

There are 2 boot knives that I can see and what looks like another M1A1 muzzle above the "tankers" hand.

I suspect that is correct. Maybe he has the butt removed or who knows what for ease of use in a vehicle. Wish we could have seen more, but it's anybody's guess as to what they are looking at. What gets me is how young the two with M1A1s appear. But then my Dad was only 19 when he landed during D Day.

That's right, take a look at your own platoon pic. We were all like them.
