Fulton's Scope Base
Recently bought a Fulton's scope base and it is not fitting properly. I figure that I'd ask here first before I started smithing on it.
Specifically, it is the piece that fits into the stripper clip groove on the receiver...it simply will not fit.
Any suggestions?

'.......... it simply will not fit' cover a big field. So covering an equally wide field, might I suggest a bit of careful hand fitting with a file so that it will fit and then clamp up. Just a suggestion You could send it back but before you do, remember that there are many thousands out there who have them, fitted and working perfectly before you do.......................

Not wanting to suggest the obvious, but have you made sure that the chock is the right way around, and that the allen bolt is slackened off? Sometimes you have to take the chock off completely and refit it from below once the mount is lying across the top of the charger bridge.

Those mounts are very expensive, I would be darned if I would be filing on it!

Yes, they're damned expensive.....and worth every penny as you only need to buy it once unlike some of the other crap mounts made here and elsewhere in the world. What you need to understand is that the charger bridge of the No.4 was never designed as an index point or for a jam nut to be fitted up from the bottom so guess what, there is variation between rifles and sometimes you need to file the nut so it seats tight and the bolt clears from below. I've had some of them them drop right in and some that need filing. Every rifle is a bit different. If it's the base I recently sold to a gent in Virginia, please feel free to contact me and I can walk you through the installation as I offered last week. Brian

But don't forget lucky dog, that all the rifles aren't necessarily the same. Those that have had the bridge charger guide re-welded are perfectly serviceable but differ slightly internally due to the weld and might need a bit of what we call, 'titivating' up a bit. But I agree, they'te tough, sturdy and reliable mounts. Oooops, Brian has already covered this point in his thread.

Thanks for the input. I have tried the chock both ways...both right and wrong. When I put the chock into place, the flat side will not fit properly when the angle side fits and vice versa. I thought it was just my 'fat fingering', but regardless of which way it goes in, the screw is not long enough to engage the threads. I will call the distributor that I bought it from tomorrow and talk to him and see if I can get any further guidance or a replacement. I tend to believe that it may be a variance with the weapon vice a faulty part...

Judicious use of a file is what it sounds like it needs then. I just have terrible luck and get squeamish about such things. Seems I am always saying "just have to take off just a wee bit more" and then getting carried away, followed by a session of beating myself up and looking for replacement parts.

Trust me, I know. I already have a sore spot in my stomach, just thinking about it. I'll post the results when I get it finished. Thanks everyone!
