Looks like he bought a 1942 No4 MkI manufactured by Fazakerley. S/N appears to be P20372A. Both the fore-end and buttstock are dated 1949. Glad to see he spent his hard earned money wisely!

Its got a Longbranch safety. Looks like it was hand stamped as well. Great looking rifle. Lots of stamps, lots of history. I wonder if the receiver could be a replacement? I'm suggesting this because of the hap hazard stamps and LB safety. To bad the old girl can't talk. The butt stock is dated 49 as well, certainly an FTR. That isn't a problem though. In Canadaicon, that rifle would bring a minimum of $325+. Great first buy.

I've had more than one guy come up to me at a gunshow, with a kid in tow and use the kid to drop the price. The same guy, tried it two years in a row in Chilliwack, BC. I saw him pull the same thing in Kamloops, last year. It is a common practise. Let the kid do the dickering and then it gets fun. Stay out of it. Just tell the seller, that you're ok with the kid buying the rifle.
Most sellers at shows, will give a kid a break. If the old man is hanging on every word, it can and will get their suspicions aroused, even if it's legitimate.
