Question SVT 40 will not eject?

Hi All - I am having a problem with an SVT 40 that will not eject. I have adjusted the gas port to max and I have to use my boot heel on the cocking handle to get the round out. What must I do?

Ahhhh the techinal term for this is "going into 2x4". That means it takes a 2x4 to get the bolt open.

Sorry to say but pretty common on SVT 40's. Had the same problem and fixed it by haveing the chamber reamed out just a little. Now it shoots fine.

One thing to remember about the SVT's is they do use an adjustable gas system.

This is the small numbered part sticking out near the end of the barrel. So just keep this info in mind.

Start at 1.1 and work up to reliable extraction and feeding. You should find it at 1.3 or 1.5 Be sure the gas port lines up in the regulator and the muzzle extension key is centered allowing all gas to pass through to the regulator and gas system.

Another problem is a loose gas nut. If this is the case you will have to get the correct wrench to tighten it.

If you do this then you should have less problems with your rifle. Congrats on the cool new rifle.

Allso keep the chamber clean! Clean it good and let it soak in the chamber to get out all the varnish out of the fluted areas. The flutes keep the brass floating on gas,s to keep it from sticking in the chamber. The same fluted system was used in the Hk G3 designs and MP-5. Even bolt Mosins can load up on Com-bloc varnish gunk and make it hard to extract. Brass case PPU from Aimsurplus new nc,boxer primed is what I shoot in my SVT40 with mint bore and gas system.

Wire brush the flutes clean first, as noted by jeep, and do the checks per Capt Mil Colt. Also make sure the gas block cross key is centered to ensure gas is getting to the spigot. (It will be way off center to have any effect, so it's not too likely.) Another check is to inspect the gas spigot and cup for erosion. If the extracted cases look rough, you may have to polish the chamber. It will make the fired rounds swell a bit more, but it works (if required) and is only a bother if you want to reload boxer primed cases.
