Every time I see a picture like this I wonder how many of them took the train home again...

The one's that survived did'nt look like these guys 2 1/2 years later. War is hell!!.

Those M-1928 packs dont look very comfortable.

First and second pic have a 1903 coming up the stairs first. Third pic looks like the boys are getting some sort of orientation on the M1s. Note the senior NCO and that questioning look on the troops face. The rest all seem to be clustered around a rifle three to one. A scene I'm familiar with. What better time to do it when you have 30 hrs or more on the troop train?

Note in first pic troop is carrying "A" bag. Thats essential clothing and equipment for the deployment. The "B" bag, or barracks bag, was all other, winter uniforms if summer, civvies etc. The "B" bag was sent along later, theoretically.
