Old Ruger Ad, Etc.. (Photo Heavy)

I was doing some housecleaning and came across several old issues of RAILROAD MAGAZINE that were inside an old footlocker I've had for decades.
It was stuffed full of old magazines from my younger years and must weigh 200 pounds. (Alas, all of the vintage 'girly' mags were long gone, but I wouldn't have looked at them anyway)

Anyway, one issue had this full back cover ad of the new Ruger .44 Mag Carbine, and I thought some might find it interesting.



The magazine itself was pretty interesting as well.
(Dang, it didn't seem that it was that long ago when I bought this magazine)
That date would make me 13 years old at that time. Time flies by fast!



Also, I found my huge old collection of DC WAR comics from the late 60's and early 70's inside the foot locker as well - Sgt Rock, Enemy Ace, Jeb Stuart and the 'Haunted Tank' etc, etc.

I love the realistic depictions they created for the covers back then!




Some of the artwork and story-lines are still pretty good though.

After I 're-found' these old mags, I didn't get much (any) cleaning done!
I apologize if these old mags/ads are not of interest to everyone, but I hope a few will enjoy the nostalgia - I reduced the file sizes, so I hope they load fairly quickly.

I'll make another post of the LIFE magazines I "Re-found" a couple of weeks ago.
(Glad my wife didn't 'dump' these!)

Does anyone else have any old ads, etc they'd like to share?

I bought three boxes of 1939 -1954 LIFE mags about 10 years ago from a gentleman who'd been selling them one at a time eBay.
I emailed him and he said that he was tired of dealing with the hastle of selling them one at a time and he sold the whole lot that he had gotten from an estate sale.
(The postage was almost what I paid for the mags!)

The ads are almost as, or even more interesting than the stories.
The first thing I realized when I began to read through them was that the world really was at total war -
(It seemed different somehow to see it in then current magazines than reading history books)

There are ads by the Big Three auto makers, and almost every other large corp apologizing for not being able to supply cars, radios, tires, and about everything else you can imagine.
Everyone is in uniform.
They also show pictures of the war material they were presently making and almost each ad also said to buy War Bonds so they could soon whip the axis* and get back to making cars again.
(* This was way before 'PC', and the language used during that era was much harsher than anything we'll ever see in print again!)

Thank you Harlan I haven't seen Sgt Rock or Johnny Cloud in far too long. When I was kid I would save all my read comics and swap with my Dad's barber. A young lad could get a real education in a barber shop like that. He had one small window that was about knee hi to the street. A lot of pretty gams were seen sitting in there.
