    USMC Stock pouch

Picked up this mint original USMC M1icon carbine stock pouch a @ gun show today. These arent exactly rare, but they dont seem be that common either. This pouch was specific to the USMC, it was designed to hold either a M1911 mag or M1 carbine mag.

How do you figure this one was for either 45 mags or carbine mags? If you try it they don't come close to fitting. I would be afraid to lose my 45 mags. Besides, 45 mag pouches were never scarce were they?
    Regards, Jim

Both the 15 round carbine and the M1911(A1) magazines fit the USMC combination pouch just fine. The four bar tacks prevent the carbine magazines from dropping all the way down, yet they are spaced far enough apart to allow the longer .45 magazine to slip between them.

    Thanks Brian!

I knew 1911 magazines fit in the USMC 'stock' pouch, but that's an outstanding illustration.
I had never really noticed how the bar tacks held a 15 round carbine magazine up to the proper height.

There were some pretty smart folks back in those days.
I've come across many ingenious nuances while working on old WWII aircraft that have completely amazed me.
(I wonder how people thought of everything before computers told them what to think?)
