My three FALS

I own three FALS; the first one I bought was a Century L1A1 Sporter that someone had began to revert back to a standard FAL configuration. The best thing about it was the IMBEL receiver.

I used that receiver to build the top FAL, a precision gun (will shoot 1" @ 100 yards) that uses a DSArms 21" free floating bull barrel and a Weapons Art Stock and Grip. The builder is local to me here in Michigan (built all three guns) and for this build he reamed the chamber for .308 Match ammo vice 7.62x51 milsurp ammo. Its a heavy bugger but a great shooter.

Next, the middle gun, is an Israeli standard barrel (as opposed to a heavy barreled) FAL built on a DSArms Type I Receiver. I traded a Benelli M3 Super 90 shotgun and a Colt Combat Elite pistol for it. (I was into both for $1,500 - a fair trade considering its an all matching kit with an early M1 FAL barrel, correct for the Israeli gun).

Finally is a Standard Imbel Semi-auto kit built on a Century R1 Receiver.

I also stumbled on a box of around 20 metric FAL magazines at my local gun shop and paid $4 each for them...

With an Armourers eye for detail, I notice that your top two rifles in the photo. Each have the centre screw inserted 180 Degrees the opposite of correct assembly. It will not affect the functioning of the weapons at all. But asthetically, it looks better with the slot head on the LEFT. This was one reason (At a glance) how we knew users had 'Illegally' stripped thier rifles in Service for a more in depth cleaning! It was discouraged because they may well have lost some of the internal componants if they had done this without any proper tech training!
Just a small point, but a valid one if you want your rifles to be just that bit more 'Correct'!
I hope this Trivia of information may be of some help to you, & anyone else who is a serious collector?

I fired an L1A1 again last week Tankie! I'd forgotted the great clunking recoil that they gave off after years of the L85/SA80 family. But after a couple of rounds and setting the gas regulator, it really was a pleasure. But at the end of the shoot, when everyone had had a go, it wasn't re-cocking properly so I suspect that the gas cylinder is developing a split.

That means I'll have to inspect and replace it then have it on the range for the morning all by myself! Life can be so tedious!

Peter, You must remember when they were in Service. You got sick of the quarterly unit inspections & repairs after a few years. All the tedious range & function testing Etc!...............Oh to fire one again! How I miss it!
& the thousands of GPMGs I repaired, tested & then in Civvy street. The thousands that I made & function tested at Lydd in the always VERY windy & cold conditions that prevail there throughout the year!
Again, I would LOVE to feel the Chugging sound & mild jerky recoil of full Auto L7 again! The old is adage is SO true of: 'You never know what you have had, until it's gone'!........................
