    Mauser K98

I know nothing about military guns. I know nothing about the Mauser gun. But, I am very interested in buying a certain Mauser I have seen in a local gun store. It is there on consignment. The phone number they have for the person will not work, so I haven't been able to talk to the actual owner yet.

The information I got off of the sales tag is:
    Mauser
    Model - 1938 (42) K98icon
    Bolt Action
    8mm caliber
    20" barrel
    Mod.98
    Serial # 5380

Now y'all know about as much about the gun as I do.

It looks "very" nice, and very original, to me.
I don't know if the numbers match.
I know it is impossible to give an accurate value.
But, a ball park figure is fine.
    Thanks for any help.

    Mule

Mule, is there any way you could get a few pictures of the rifle and post them? that way you will be able to get a good idea of what is a fair price to pay, sounds like it's a good one so far, how much are they asking?

I am not sure about the length. I simply repeated what was written on the tag.

    Please read my earlier response.

[edit] Well my earlier response did not get posted. I musta hit the wrong button. I'll rewrite and then you can read it. Sorry.

I'll check into the barrel length.

    Mule.

I am sorry bout the late response, but, I did not get an email notifying me of any responses. I'll have to check into that.
I'll have pictures in a day or so. I now own the gun, but, it will be tomorrow before I can get into town to get it.
The asking price was $350.00, lowered to $300.00, lowered to $250.00. I bought it for $215.00.

Mule, even without pics the action alone is worth $215 if it has not been drilled & tapped, i would say you did fine. still would like to see the photos , the 20 inch barrel length in not correct.

How do you know it's a K98kicon? - From the sales tag?
Let's get serious. Who would bother to cut down a K98k?
It might just be something rarer - like a G33/40.
Most dealers wouldn't know the difference.

We need to see pictures. One overall, one of the receiver ring, and one of the left side of the receiver.

    Thumbs up

    His post said - Model - 1938 (42) K98 was on the tag. That means it is a 42 code 1938 K98kicon.
If it is all original military the store made a mistook on the tag for bbl lengt.
Even if it's an RC he did Very Good!!!

I don't think the links are working for the photos, getting a generic page each time.
