Can someone explain what is the issue with ammo attracking magnets?

If your projectile attracts a magnet, it has either a steel jacket, a steel core, or both. If so, some ranges have two problems with you. They might be concerned that your rounds will penetrate their backstop and cause damage beyond the range, or they might be worried that your shots will cause sparks and fires.

do steel core tend to richochet more ?

yes , and they tear up the backstops , worse yet are tracers

Many ranges ban them as they destroy the targets and target carriers.
