Well, I never realised that the L4 butt slides were machined away at the guide rails. What say you Tankie? I'll check up with all of ours first thing tomorrow! Thanks for that BP
Peter, never looked, I will have to pull my L4 out & have a look too!

One question for you though. Wasn't there a time when
UK deacts had removable barrels ? I seem to remember an old family friend who had one in his home where all that had been done (if I remember rightly) was the bolt face had been cut through with a grinder from left to right, so that the firing pin and extractor were destroyed along with a rod welded into the barrel. You could take the barrel off and see the rod welded from one end to the other.
Was this a one off or am I mistaken (it was back in the late 80's)
Gary
This is correct, VERY early pre 1987 Deacts did indeed have removable barrels. World wide Arms were ONE of the companies selling this type of Arm. The proofhouse issued a Cert of unprovability with them. this meant in Law at the time. If you couldnt fire it & work had been done to 'permanantly' make it unfireable. It ceased to be a Firearm in the sense of the word in Law. This rapidly changed with the F/Arms ammendment act Sec8. Deacts. As the early ones could have a barrel & breech block rapidly exchanged, the weap could fire! Hence ever increasing tightening up of specs as various idiots try to modfiy & spoil it for genuine collectors

A few early spec Sub Machine guns of various manufacturers, pistols & the odd 'Other' type of one off here & there. have been sucessfully reactivated a few years back. these were seized & the 'owners' at the time prosecuted.
Unless you actually had some of the essential componants, I think you would find it almost impossible to do this sort of stupid thing & attempt to reactivate any former Firearm.
It would probably be easier to make a one shot pen pistol that react any Deact! NOT that I am recomending that whatsoever!!!!!!

Reactivated......... No Brens but several SMG's Some Brens have been THOUGHT to have been reactivated but investigations showed that they were cloned and ....I don't understand it either but.........
Peter, can you elucidate on what you meant by cloning brens please? Not too sure what you mean on this topic Sir!....

To me a cloned Bren must be a live one that has been given the serial number of a deac one. Thats just a guess.
I've got a L4A2/4 and a L4A4 that both have the machined rails. Also 3 Mk3s, 1947 52 and 62 and they also have machined rails.

Other than the Inglis MkII, my Brens originated from Ryton Arms. Do they do all their deactivation work in house, or might the Brens have been done by other Section 5 dealers?
Cheers,
Mark

peregrinvs, not sure if you are trying to find some form of conformatity on deacs submitted to different Proof Houses by different Sec5 dealers at different dates but you will not find any.
Not all Sec 5 dealers selling deacs do their own deac work and can be farmed out to numerous other Sec 5 dealers to deac them who submit to different Proof Houses.Even now submitting to the same Proof House the method of deactivation will differ greatly depending on who did the work but will still pass.
