    Disassemble 7.65 Mauser

Need some info......how do you remove the lug nut (?) on the side of the stock above the trigger guard to disassemble an Argentineicon Mauser (k98 too has one too).....is there a tool to insert into those two small holes to turn the nut ??

    Don't do it!

    Careful, careful CAREFUL

Is it really, really necessary to do that? You can make up such a tool from two pieces of drill stub in a hand vise. In some cases you can use the expanding pliers used for spring clips. But in most cases, and especially for a rifle of that vintage, the nut is so firmly stuck/rusted to the thread of the recoil crossbolt (a.k.a. stockbolt) that turning the nut will rotate the crossbolt slightly in its square hole, thus loosening it in the stock, and destroying its proper function of absorbing the recoil thrust to prevent the trigger guard screws being pushed slightly skewy and the tang being driven back in the recess in the butt - which can cause a split.

If you have ever seen rifle with a split in the neck just behind the tang - that is how it happens. In a word, you can FUBAR your rifle.

So unless it comes out easily:

DO NOT REMOVE THE CROSSBOLT FOR MERELY COSMETIC PURPOSES

Not sure if this old book in our MKLicon addresses that or not, but here you go ...
