    Question K98 Information

OK guys. I need some help on a K98icon that I may have a line on for a trade. No pics so far but this is what he has sent concerning the markings. I don't know a great deal about K98 markings so was hoping someone could tell me if these parts are correct for the time period/manufacturer. The story is that it is a bring back with no import, electro-pencil, RC marks. All swastikas in tact. That's about all I know at this point. I'll post oics when I get them.

    Bolt:
    Bolt Body: Waffenamt 83
    Safety: e
    Bolt Sleeve: Waffenamt 83
    Cocking Piece: Waffenamt 623
    Bolt Stop: Waffenamt 623

Receiver (theres alot of markings on here hope it makes sense) :
(top of receiver above chamber): bcd 41
Serial: *002, with intact swastikas and eagles, both on receiver and barrel.
    d

Side of Chamber on receiver: Waffenamt 749 (this is on there three times side by side)
On Barrel just above chamber: avk 33 41 bys Waffenamt 13 Waffentamt 13 (twice side by side)
Just under the rear sight block right above stock: a followed by Waffenamt 18 (twice side by side.
Rear Sight Bridge: Waffenamt 280 (twice, one on top of the other)
    Sight guide: Waffenamt 655
Follower: Marked with a crown over a Gothic Font letter B

    Front end of rifle:

    Barrel Band: Waffenamt 623
    Muzzle Band: Waffenamt WaA655
    Takedown Lock pin: Waffentamt 250
    Front sight: Waffentamt 18

    Trigger, and seer:

    Trigger: Waffentamt 280
    Seer: Waffentamt 623

This article was originally published in the KCN in their August 1990 newsletter as: THE GUSTLOFF K98kicon By Bob Jensen and was edited by Peter Kuck 06/11/2002

In 1941 the code used to designate Gustloff was changed from “337” to the letter code “bcd” Laminated stocks and handguards continued to be exclusively used. The date code was changed from a four-digit date to a two-digit date.

What he has is NOT a bring back! With the mix of parts (The follower is from a WW 1 rifle) & ser nrs it sure sounds like an RC that missed getting the X and an import stamp. They do exist, I have several 98ks and a P.38.
IF you can buy it for $250 it would be a good shooter. I don't think it is worth more than that as RCs can be found in that price range.
If you do buy it, I would trade you some properly proofed parts for those with WaA 623 on them.

Thanks Sarge. Still haven't seen any pics. He has made no mention of Sn except on the receiver and barrel.
