wrong barrel ?
seams wrong to me, an 11-42 barrel on a 6.1 mil underwood

The P looks like underwoods late style larger proof P not the smaller early style.

Shound be 3-44 or 4-44 barrel date I believe.

I've got an early production (1,35 mil) Underwood and it has a 11-42 barrel on it. From what I understand, Underwood made 6,11 mil carbines in the spring of 44, at the very end of their production. It would seem that a gun in the last part of production would have an an early 44 barrel date on it.

Woulda been nice if he'd spent that much time gently cleaning up the stock......

Looks like it served in Wurttemburg, Stuttgart. Metropolitan Police. They had 3743 Carbines and 4226 handguns from US. CC 352
