    Help with Mk5 Jungle Carbine

    Hello,

I suspect that this rifle has the action of a Mk4 rifle, based on the sight design, and it was faked to appear to be a Mk5 Jungle Carbine. Can anyone confirm or disprove this?

    Thanks,
    Jim Clark

The sight is wrong to begin with, it should be a machined ladder marked to 800 only. The rest of the pics don't tell me much because the story is under the wood. Remove the front wood and we can see.

Looks good to me. The sight, as you know is wrong. About 40 bucks or so. The engraving looks right. The fore end without the metal cap is OK. I have one of those. It's a No.5.

I thought that sight was on the Mk4, though I have limited knowledge. Do I just unscrew the metal band holding the front end of the sling and the front wood will come off?

Ok, I looked at some more photos of Mk4's and they also have the machine ladder sight. Thanks for the help everyone.

Remove the front band and the trigger guard. It has two screws. Remove the front one first and the little transverse one will be easier. Mag off first.

Well I am hopefully about to get a No5 built on a No4 reciver and Peter Laidlericon has written that they did rebuild No 5's and if they had a few that had receivers beyond repair would rebuild using a No 4.

The difference in the one I saw is the receiver says No 4 and the sight is a original No 5 sight.
Why use a 50 pound bomb when a 500 pound bomb will do?

Agreed user1 ,but I thought he should see the cutouts in front of the knoxform also. Plus there are lightening cutouts in the rest of the receiver.

I'm a little dubious about the No5 shown for two reasons. First, after having seen a thousand or so No5's and even knowing the Fazakerley reputation for abysmal engraving (and workmanship, but I won't dwell on that.....), I haven't seen real Fazakerley engraving this bad. Secondly, the poor image we see of the right hand lowered bodyside looks to me as though it's uneven....., as if it's been done after it was hardened and the cutter or file couldn't cope. Maybe it's camera angle and all that but a picture of the right hand side should tell us.

    Just my two pence worth...............

Have any of the Nic/Cyp No.5 conversions made it into the USAicon?
