I know the M27 was made in low numbers with 7,5 58mm anyone know how many were made in 7,5 54mm

From one of the best French forums, the number produced in both 7.5x58 and 7.5x54 were under 1200 rifles. The M24 cartridge (7.5x58) was used until Aug 1931 then replaced with the M29 cartridge (7.5x54), main reason to change the cartridge case by 4mm was because the 7.92x57 Mauser cartridge would both chamber and fire in the converted 7.5x58mm.
The website also states that only two or three rifles are known to collectors that are still in the 7.5x58mm

Thanks mine is 1940 dated with a 14xx serial number must be among the last made!

You might want to check the chamber to make sure you have the 7.5x58 mm, if you do have this chambering, your rifle would be quite rare. But even if you have the 7.5x54mm it is still rare too. There are very few rifles in the 7.5x58mm around today.

A few of these rifles have been found incomplete or had been sportized, all have been restored as this is not a common pre WW2 to find ! Try and see if you can chamber an unloaded empty 8x57 cartridge case. During testing in the 1920's, sometimes a 8x57 was chambered and fired resulting in a horrible accident. Collectors of French rifles would purchase this from you,
the chambering would not matter.

Thanks for help with the photos. This was on someones table at a gun show iIwas set up at in nov. Didn't realize when I bought it how rare it was.I guess the seller didn't either as it was inexpensive.He said it walked in the door at a show the week before at the end of the day . I bought it because it was a Lebel and cheap. I guess the blind squirrel finds an acorn once and a while!
