Built a rifle range, and took my K98k for a test drive

I was able to borrow a friends rangefinder this weekend, so I strapped a chainsaw, and a couple of rifles to an old toboggon and trudged out into the bush to mark off a proper range.

I took my bolt-mismatch bcd 4 with me to spend the shells I got for christmas

At 200yds offhand the target is so puny in the open sights that I was only putting one in three shots on the paper, but at 100yds offhand I was more than satisfied with my first two two-shot groups. I'm not sure if the lowness is a product of the lighter 170g bullet, or my wobble. I can't wait to see how she preforms off of the sandbags.

The right hand holes were made by my cousin with a scoped BLR .308 offhand, and the top group is mine out of my grandfathers .280 Woodsmaster.

I can't wait until the snow melts and I can take the entire collection out and properly bench them all for inherent accuracy.

Nice. I love shooting in the snow. There's such a dignified silence over the landscape. Which is then suddenly interupted by the roar of 8mm

Very nice, Skippy. All you needed was someone with a Mosin-Nagant shooting the other direction for that authentic Eastern Front experience.

Just what I was thinking Stevo.

Also, Sigismund, if you look closely at that bcd 4, you might notice a shiny new (to me) cleaning rod

I've got an envelope en route to you

That be snow. Had a club meeting tonight and test-fired a members new Smith M&P. At 6:30 pm it was -32C, pitch black, and needed my Insight M3 to light up the target. A good time was had by all.

It was only -24C and 10 mph wind, when this pic was taken last month. Notice how long the shadows are at 1pm.

It's probably not a problem, but your going to kill that tree you're shooting into. Not a slam, just an observation and some bad experience. Other than that, great range, have fun. bearhunter

Don't worry, I had that in mind when I chainsawed the bottom 7' of branches off of it
There are 50 cedars in my swamp to replace each one you see in those pics.
There are a couple of cedars about that size where I used to shoot that actually fell over after repeted hits from 7.62x54r ball ammo.
