Thanks For all the information and help

Thanks for all the information and help I have gotten on this forum I have been an Enfield and other british arms collector for 25 years but have just gotten into Brens which I shot 45 or so years ago when I was in the Queens own Cameron Hightlanders a malita unit back in Winnipeg Manitoba Canadaicon. I have the book the Bren saga and am looking forward to Peter Laidlers "who I met one time when on a tour of Military museums with Ian Skenerton and a bunch of othe folks" book . Alan Abramson

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. Manufacturer of various vintage rifle scopes for the 1903 such as our M73G4 (reproduction of the Weaver 330C) and Malcolm 8X Gen II (Unertl reproduction). Several of our scopes are used in the CMP Vintage Sniper competition on top of 1903 rifles. Brian Dick ... You can see the loop on the back of my L4A2/4, this one came from the Falklands Islands defence force and I assumed it was a local Mod by them

Well I had some inglis and Monotype Mk2 butts off and I found the Inglis Mk2 lowers had the wider holes the same as the Mk1 lowers and my Daimler marked Mk2 had the wider bottom hole and the narrower top hole. Anyone else got their butt off?

Peter, Whilst trawling for other info, I found the relevant E.M.E.R Info yesterday. E567, Mod no.10, it came into effect in 1986. Page three has a perfect drawing of the Mod to the buttplate.
it would seem that this mod would have been standard across the L4 Range & WOULD, IF it had been implemented to ALL in Service guns at the time. Would heve meant that ALL in Service guns WOULD have had this mod done.
Hope this is of some small help?

I didn't realise that it was that late in the guns life. I've seen it done on the old .303 guns of all marks that have the lightweight Mk4 butt fitted. So maybe they did do it across the board.

In case anyone's confused about the butts, and going from memory now.........
Butt, Mk1 the usual original type. Several variations of butt plate
Butt, Mk2, the butt with the flat butt plate and right side recessed sling loop. Two variations of butt plate. W and w/o overhang
Butt, Mk3, lightweight version of the Mk2 butt, modified for the proposed Mk4 gun. One variation of butt plate
Butt, Mk4, production Mk3 butt. Two variations of butt plate. Standard and modified
