    A very unique Mauser

I think I can call it that since it is styled after the Mauser. This is a MARS 115 Nazi WWII trainig rifle that is actually a BB gun, it shoots 4.4mm balls at 450fps. I had never seen one before and I thought it was kind of different so I bought it Friday. If it didn't have a little surface rust here and there it would be pristine. The furniture almost matches the color of my 98k. I have the original sling but it is torn, and I'm missing the cleaning rod.

    Trapdoor Mauser?

A very fine specimen. And one member of the extended Mauser-like family that I have not (yet) had in my hands. What is the purpose of that cute little trapdoor?

That my friend is where the BB's go. Now I have to see if I can find or make some 4.4mm BB's!

Aha, so is it really a gallery rifle? With a push rod that acts on the tiny BB in the trap, and a barrel that only runs from the trap to the muzzle? The sight ladder is calibrated in meters.

The correct ammunition is probably that known in Germanyicon as "4mm Randzündung" or "Zimmerstutzen-Munition". It is still available here, and is manufactured by RWS. If you cannot find a source in the US, I can provide you with a couple of addresses in Germany, but I imagine that importing would probably not be easy.
