    Unhappy Cleaning the Bolt?

    I just got a Historic Arms LLC Mark II 1944. Figured out with Peter's pictures how to get the Barrel out and bipod off. But I have not gotten the bolt out to clean it. The lower appears to be welded on the reciever. Any help out there?

    Welcome to a small fraternity... To dissassemble one of Len's guns...

    A. Make sure it's not loaded!

    B. Remove barrel first if you want... then bipod twists off... you figured this part already. Remove magazine if inserted.

    C. Go to rear of receiver... pull large pin out the right side... it should be held in place... no need to remove... the striker spring and recoil spring should force the upper receiver forward on the lower's rail... the butt group can now be slid to the rear and removed... the forward portion of the slide/lower is in fact welded to the receiver body... you should be able to retract the cocking handle and remove the striker, bolt and gas piston groupings out the rear of the receiver... assemble in reverse order.

    Purchase the book... Bren Gun Saga... pictures and manual extracts in rear of book will be of assistance to you... even though you have a semi-auto.

    Next bit of advice. |Don't buy the book.......... wait a little bit because there is a better (?) book on its way out as we speak. But if you want a really good ready-reckoner type book for the time being, might I suggest the little SAIS series booklet on the Bren by Ian Skennertonicon

    I think I will. Met Ian at the Tulsa show one spring. Besides its kinda fun figuring out how different weaopons work even if they are only semiauto. And its too cold to play outside -20 earlier today.

    Hey there,

    With the Historic Arms builds, the front part of the lower IS welded to the upper receiver, but if you look carefully, in front of the selector lever you'll notice there is a cut, where the rear of the lower is removable. You'll need to take out the body locking pin, which is the large pin right at the back of the receiver. Once that's out carefully slide the lower backwards. There is an additional spring which operates the striker which will remain on the lower. It is coiled on the outside of the return spring, so it should remain in place when you remove the lower. Remove the striker , and then remove the bolt carrier and bolt. You'll notice that the firing pin is much longer than a regular Bren firing pin, and rides in the middle of the piston post (which allows for a striker fired, closed bolt action).
