What kind of finish does it have. Is the stock a winchester? Is the barrel a "w" marked? Any traces of red paint on the stock? If it is a mixmaster that has been refinished, then $700 sounds a little high. If it is blued and the most of the parts and stock are winchester then $700 maybe a decent price. Look for an import stamp on the undersde of the barrel.

I am going to have another look tomorrow, looking for the w on the stock and under the barrel. Did not see any red paint, and the finish is nice. The upper hand guard looks different than the rest of the stock tho.

Also forgot to ask, what does the red paint mean?

The red paint on the upper stock would indicate that the rifle was one of those sold to Britian in 1940. They are generally referred to as Lend-Lease rifles even though they were sold out right to them before the lendlease act was passed in 1941. The three types of finishes you can encounter are: Original blued, Post WWI black parkerizing, WWII grey parkerizing. Another quick test for the barrel is the bullet test in the muzzle to check for wear.

The price is high. Excellent condition, with Winchester blue and correct stock and bolt, $700.00 works. You are looking at a re-built shooter, price needs to come down .
