Question Ross Mark 10 with "HG" on buttstock?

I have a Ross Mark 10 with the marking "HG" on buttstock. I was told this means home guard. If so was this during WW1 period or WW2. The rifle is in full military configuration and chamber has not been reamed.

    Thank you

    Gary

This was the Cdn. Home Guard, a paramilitary WW1 organization. What other letters and numbers are there in addition to the HG? The rifle will likely have a serial number stamped on the left side of the breech of the barrel. The rifle was likely made 1914, and will exhibit the features of the early Mk. III rifle.

Gary: As above, there should be numbers or letters associated with the HG on your Ross. Nice find, as the HG rifles are usually in excellent plus condition. They were issued to major government contractors, public utilities and other war essential industries during WW II. It just means HOME GUARD... The rifle will normally have a 5 or 6 digit serial number as well. Drop me a PM and nice to see you are still around collecting.
    Cheers,
    Warren
