    Winchester Late First Block

A recent purchase at a local auction and is a fairly good example of what was coming out toward the end of Winchester's first block. All of the parts are Winchester and match in wear and patina. It has the 9/16" left rear receiver detail, E379 op slide, and a late no bevel trigger housing with type 4 straight hammer. The front sight has a thumbnail mill mark. This example came with it's sling and oiler in tact. The oiler is an IS with serifs and is parked. Pictures forthcoming:

In my honest opinion, the entire carbine shows an external patina from being exposed to the elements. Fortunately there is no active rust or pitting. hth.

    Hi David,
Congrats on a very nice find.
    Carbine Of the Month ?
Sure has that beautiful patina we all love to see.
    I see SW safety.
    Curiousity makes me ask....
Is there a marking on top of the Extractor?
And what marking is on the later hammer?

    Thanks for sharing....

Do you think that hammer was replaced in the field?
I can't wait to see the inside for any markings on the stock bridge wall and the inner right shelf.
Hard to tell from your pic.........
But are the band weld scars worn way down and very hard to see?
It does looks great on your display stand !

Thx Again, happy for you and pleased to see you back around.
    Good guys can finish first!

P.S. David, Is it a type III Flat Hammer or the later type IV? Any idea on production date?
If a Type III straight hammer.... Could it be original?
