    Pawn shop '03

I purchased this '03 a few years ago from a pawn shop (125.00) and it shoots real nice. However I would like to find out more about it. The barrel is very highly polished blue is in good shape but no other markings other than a faint possible star barrel marking on crown of muzzle. I was going to replace all the furniture to get it back to military condition but with the way it was finished it looked to have been made this way and I couldn't make out where the military sight would have been, so didn't whant to change it till I knew. I understand that from the S/N that some information can be obtained such as from the SRS. I had never heard of this before visting this forum and would really appreciate any info the members here might be able to provide. i know some of my pictures are not that great but I'm not that good a photographer (or speller). Thanks for any help you guys can give me in advance.

It looks like you have a National Match rifle that was sportered sometime along the way. Looking in the SRS books, there are nothing but NM, IM and sporters close to that serial #. The polished NS bolt and star guage mark on the crown are more signs. It should have a barrel date below the front sight, but was maybe polished away.

It might be a hit in the DCM sales list, I don't have that one.

Thanks Mike D for the reply. Could you tell me what a DCM sales list is? And how I might get one? I looked again for a date on the barrel but if it was polished off, it was really polished, no sign of any kind of stamp remains. Could you suggest a stock of original configuration to restore it back to a NM if it is a NM (or even if I should) or is more information necessary to determine exactly which version it is? And thank you again for your help. The people on this forum are great. To have all that knowledge in one place and that the members are willing to share it!
    Thank you Mike D

If I could find the DCM sale summary, I would have it. It's probably not worth a rebuild, since the finish is not original. The parts would be expensive.

Hold tight, there are members here that have the DCM sales summary, and know much more than I.

Springfield Armory S/N 1343026 does not show up as a DCM sales rifle. The serial number, however, does fall in with a large batch of National Match rifles. So, your rifle was probably issued to a miltary shooting team as a 1930 National Match rifle and subsequently disposed of years later as a used surplus service rifle.

    Hope this helps.
