Fitting PH Target Sight to P14

Need a little bit of advice and assistance - and here has to be the best place to start....

I have a .303 Winchester P14 that I would like to fit a Parker Hale TZ 3/53 target sight.

I have located the Instruction for fitting the sight to a P14 rifle, which read as:

"Remove from the rifle the short range sight axis screw and the bolt stop axis screw which will also release the long range aperture sight

Replace the bolt stop, force back the bolt stop spring and slip the grooved foot of the target sight under the spring until the lower stud finds its way into the long range aperture sight axis hole"

Now under the pre WWII Mk II standard modification (Weedon repair standard) the long range volley sights were removed - is it the case that under this modification the spring seat in the bolt/stop/ejector was also replaced as I cannot see how a target sight can be attached in its current format as there is no long range aperture sight axis hole that I can see (though eye sight is not as good as it was...).

If I do need to locate a different spring seat - anyone know where I might be able to lay my hands on one.

The original volley sight, was just cut off, the remainder should still be there, would look more like a spacer with a slot across it, this needs to be removed or it may have been removed already. Remove the bolt stop spring then place the sight in position, These pics may be of help.

Hmmm it looks like my TZ 3/53 mount block is not the same design as the one above in the pictures - I suspect there must be different versions for other rifle types. The instructions definitely match the one above in the pictures but not the one I have. So it looks like I need to find the correct mount block.

Will keep an eye out for one for you, but can you post some pics of what you have as it shouldnt be too hard to make a block / backing plate.
The sight in the pics was a Parker Hale made for the P14 or M1917 (P17 as we call it in the UK)

It looks like someone may of filed or machined this to fit something else, has it got the locating lugs on the back ( protrude about 2mm) or does it look like they have been removed?

The top locating lug is present and if I remove the bolt/stop ejector the sight block looks as if it would fit correctly if it had a different spring seat - which slots into the lower lug hole. The block does not look modified in any way. In fact if you look at the following URL you can see a picture of a 3/53 sight attached to a P14 and the mount looks identical to the one I have and is not like the PH5B, where the spring fits across the sight block (scroll down the the Twin Zero section).

Hello all, first post here, but reading a long time ago.

To install the TZ 3/53 firmly in the receiver you must place the "T shape" pin instead of the original bolt stop spring rest. This pin have the same diameter of the bolt stop spring rest to insert in the hole of the receiver, but the head have two flattened faces to fit between the two "legs" of the sight. once this pin is in place you can slip the sight legs under the spring, blocking the sight in its place to prevent any recoil movement, and then you can tight the mounting screw. Don't tight too much that screw, or it will break.

I purchased a TZ 3/53 from ebay.uk to use in my M1917, but this mounting pin was missing, so I made a new one from a good steel semi-thread hex M5 screw, dremel tool and needle files, adjusting first the cylindrical part to the receiver, and then re-shaping the screw head to fit between the two legs of the sight. it work perfectly and holds the sight like a rock.

Thanks 44Largo - knew there had to be another part once I re-confirmed the 3/53 sight was for the P14. I will try to find an original T pin first before attempting to make one, but appreciate the information.
