Hey guys can I get your thoughts on this hammer marking por favor

Just got this part from another user on the M1CarbineForum. Its a type III hammer but I can't make out the marking. It looks like H.I Maybe its HI or H.I. which leads me to believe its Inland. Has anyone ever come across poorly marked hammers like this one? I'll be using it for a Plainfield I have so its not a big issue if its repop or not but just curious

    Cheers

It looks like H.I and then runs off the edge.

Hemphill hammers are marked H.I. and HI

I agree with Jim. looking closely at your full size view you can see the period and the 'I' running off the edge.

The condition of the metal sure looks authentic. It looks like they might have had the punch at an angle when it was struck and it bounced off the edge.

Thanks Jim and Harlan. That little dot above the marking is that anything or just some metal pitting?

Enlarging it makes makes it blurry. But it just looks like the condition of the metal to me.

    Charlie,

I thought he meant directly above the H.I. in the same cut out area. Not the one above. Thanks.

Thanks Charlie. Figured it was a pr!ck mark of some sort. Sorry Jim, I should have been a little more clear.

I've had several hammers similar to that: sometimes only the "I" was visible and sideways, sometimes an "I-I" with part of one "I" run off.
