    Last American doughboy dies

Frank Buckles, last surviving American vet of WW1 passed away at age 110. Thought it would be fitting to post it in the '03 forum.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. I am not sure how many of you have heard, but there was a movement introduced by legislators in both houses of Congress to have Mr. Buckles body lay in honor inside the Rotundra at the Capital. Apparently, a few legislators stonewalled the idea for whatever reason. You may want to check into this and contact your legislator and find out what the actual problem is. The last true WW I vet deserves this honor out of respect for all the troops that served in the War to End All Wars. By the way, Mr. Buckles not only served in WW I, but he was also captured by the Japaneseicon in the Pacific while working in a civilian capacity and was held prisoner for 3 years. Quite a guy.
