    Help with full stock M2

    Hi

My first post on this forum - I'm a S&W collector so please take pity on me.

A friend who is not technologically enabled asked me to check into a Springfield M2 he has in his safe. It's got a 1942 SA barrel, green parkerizing and a full wood stock. Most (all?) of those I've looked at online have half wood stocks, so I'm a bit puzzled.

I've taken some pictures which I'll try to post below.

Any info you guys have on this style of M2 would be interesting.

    Regards.

    Dave

The stock is from a Remington 03-A3, and not original to the Springfield M2.

No mystery. Someone took a M2 .22 and put it into a M1903A3 .30-06 stock.

Look again Johnny Peppers, I'm surprised you missed it. The stock is an original A4 stock. I looked quickly at the pic of the proof "P" and concluded it was a replacement scant stock someone put the rifle in. THEN I saw the Remington marks. Remington issued scant stocks only on A4's, so looked again. Yep, there is the notch under the bolt handle.

Merlindrb, that is a very desirable stock and they are hard to find. You would have no trouble selling it and using the money to buy a correct M2 stock. I don't know how hard the M2 stocks and bands are to come by.

    FWIW,

    Emri

Emri is right. A4 stock. The stock being modified for the Lyman sight certainly hurts the value, but I think it still might bring $300 on fleabay.

Also merlindrb, tell your friend his sling is on upside-down!

You are correct. I only looked at the left side picture for a cartouche, and stopped there.
