Could an Underwood 8-44 barrel be original to a Saginaw S'G' serial number 3544152?

No. Both Underwood and Saginaw contracts were cancelled in April 44,however, Underwood had an Ordnance contract for replacement barrels that I believe ended in Nov.1944.

Yes Underwood and Standard Products did arsenal updates on M1icon Carbines. The Underwood done ones were marked .U. and were parked a lighter gray than the ones done by STD. PRD. They were always almost black.
