    Parker Hale 5C Target Site

Does anybody know a good reference book/article on disassembly/reassembly of the Parker Hale site. I have one that is in good condition but it is horribly dirty and it is very difficult to adjust. I think that it would function much more smoothly if it were stripped and detail-cleaned.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Check the MKLicon for this entry ...

    A.J. Parker Parker Hale Sights

I think there's reference to a web site in the entry that may have that information ...

    Regards,
    Doug

Thanks Peter: it appears that these are disassembled by good old empirical skills--when they were originally made I guess nobody thought too much about how servicible they would be 60-70yr later! --John

Take it to your nearest diesel injection shop and ask them to put in their ultrasonic cleaner for half an hour.

Having stripped about a hundred of these babies over the last couple of years you can be mostly sure that the most likely cause of a stiff action is simply congestion with dirt and dried grease, sometimes the spring under the ball bearing gets soft making the detent a little spongy, but a handy replacement for that one off item is believe it or not, a spring from a bic lighter flint, its long but easily trimmed and the slight over size effect can be cured by reaming the hole about .02.
Nothing to worry about, clean it thoroughly and you'll be off to the races.
