WW2 Enfeild info help - New Owner

I have what I think is a WW2 Enfeild rifle. I know it fires and I know its a .303 Brit but thats about it. Im not a very good picture taker of fine detail , but as I clean it I will try for better pictures. I just picked it up this afternoon.
Im more of a Garandicon guy , so this is new to me. Thank you for the imput, Jay

It's an Enfield No.4 Mk1, as marked on the left side of the receiver. I think H prefix = BSA Shirley.
But that would mean production in 1944.
So maybe it's an Mxxxxx. M= Royal Ordnance Factory Maltby, and then 1942 fits.

Yes -- Based on the markings on the buttsocket, it is a Maltby.

Thanks again , that info is really helpful. I feal alot better about the rifle.

Is that the rifles serial number on the buttsocket? Juding by the pictures does anyone have a rough value to put on it? Why would this one not have the import markings?

Sorry for the million questions I like to know everything about them, thats why im in this hobby. - Jay

Looks like your Maltby needs a front sight protector and screw. Springfield Sporters should have them. And yes that is the rifle's serial number on the butt socket, on a matching rifle it will also be the same number on the bolt handle. If there are no import marks it means it was in this country before they were required. A value depends on what similar rifles go for in your neck of the woods. In my humble opinion if you gave less than two bills for it you didn't get hurt.

Id have to see it to belive it but , the numbers dont match... but the funny thing is they are 12 numbers apart.
    13225 rifle , 13237 bolt

I see im missing the front sight protector now. Il snag up a G.I. one when I can. The thing on the value is , ive honestly never seen one at a show that didnt have a ugly import mark on it. Your average No4Mk1 at a show is 275-375 from what I have seen at the last few. But those are non numbers matching import marked regular Enfeilds that I was told were given to India from Englandicon after WW2.

    Hi ..

Perhaps download a complete set of manuals for the Lee Enfield, which includes operating and armourer's maintenance instructions.

The manuals may be found in the Technical Articles for Milsurp Collectors and Re-loaders (click here)

2002 No.4 (All Marks) .303 Rifle Manuals (click here)

    Complete Set includes:

    - 2002 No.4 (All Marks) .303 Rifle Data Summary
    - 2002 No.4 (All Marks) .303 Rifle Parts Identification List
    - 2002 No.4 (All Marks) .303 Rifle Operating Instructions
    - 2002 No.4 (All Marks) .303 Rifle Equipment Description
    - 2002 No.4 (All Marks) .303 Rifle Maintenance Instructions

1991 No.4 (All Marks) .303 Rifle Manuals (click here)

    Complete Set includes:

    - 1991 No.4 (All Marks) .303 Rifle Operating Instructions
    - 1991 No.4 (All Marks) .303 Rifle Maintenance Instructions

Note: The difference between the 1991 set of No.4 Manuals and 2002 No.4 (All Marks) .303 Rifle Manuals, is that the 1991 manual contains armourer's information on how to properly "bed" the No.4 rifle, whereas the newer 2002 manual does not.

    Hope this helps...

    Regards,
    Doug

I have taken it down and its going to be a long couple of days cleaning it. Its in amazing shape once I clean each part.

Anyone else think the bolt # and rifle # is odd?
